A study of food resources in the North Pacific between 1989 and 1996 revealed that creatures of the seabed were suffering from dwindling food supplies, possibly resulting from increasing sea surface temperatures during the same period.

A: that creatures of the seabed were suffering from dwindling food supplies, possibly resulting from increasing
B: that creatures of the seabed were suffering because food supplies were dwindling, possibly as a result of an increase in
C: that creatures of the seabed were suffering because of food supplies, which were dwindling possibly as a result of increasing
D: creatures of the seabed that were suffering from food supplies that were dwindling, possibly resulting from an increase in
E: creatures of the seabed that were suffering because food supplies were dwindling, which possibly resulted from increasing

OA: B

A study of food resources in the North Pacific between 1989 and 1996 revealed that creatures of the seabed were suffering from dwindling food supplies, possibly resulting from increasing sea surface temperatures during the same period.

Increasing sea surface temperature gives the impression that sea surface is incraesing not temperatures.
A C E may be ruled out.
D: creatures of the seabed that were suffering from food supplies that were dwindling, possibly resulting from an increase in
that were suffering ... that were dwindling is poor construction.

B appears the best option.

'increasing sea surface temperature'
Here 'increasing' is a participle and 'sea' and 'surface' are adjectives, all modifying the noun 'temperatures';
hence it looks fine to me.

I think the problem with option A is that 'possibly resulting' seems to illogically modify 'food supplies'

Can anyone explain why the answer choice A is not correct?

First, what did the study reveal? Creatures?

...eliminate D and E.

Then decide who were suffering and what were they suffering from, only B will make sense and will be logical.

whats wrong in A v/s B?

A says suffering from dwindling food supplies

B says suffering because food supplies were dwindling

whats the difference in meaning ??? I dont understand

I read a post from Ron Purewal long time back... The rule is: Resulting from after a comma is not acceptable in GMAT. Resulting from without a comma (adjective modifier) is. Using this rule we can eliminate option A.

I narrowed down to 'B' but was not convinced with "because food supplies were dwindling, possibly as a result of" and went for 'A'. I read in another post that .."as a result of"...construction should be avoided..
By the way, 'A' does not seem right to me either with "..increasing.." construction.

I request expert explanation...
