A.P. and G.P. formula

I know GMAT doesn't ask for Arithmetic and Geometric progression formula. However, I noticed a number of GMAT questions are based on series and applying AP and GP formula may help in solving these questions. For eg: there was one question in GMATPrep (I posted a couple of days ago) asking for the sum of the 1st 10 numbers of a GP series.

Could you please let me know the formula to find the nth term and the sum of the 1st n numbers of an AP and GP series?
