The issue whether the manufacturer should be held legally and financially accountable for the injury caused by a faulty product it has manufactured is a controversial one. On one hand, the manufacturer should be accountable for the quality of the product. On the other hand, manufacturer cannot be held responsible for injuries rising out of misuse of the product.

The manufacturer is responsible for ensuring the quality of the product and ensuring that the product is free of any faults. The manufacturer should be help legally and financially accountable for any injuries arising out of manufacturing defects. For example, A builder constructs a building using low quality cement, bricks and other ingredients and within a very short time the building falls. The manufacturer is responsible for this and should be help accountable legally and financially.

On the other hand, the manufacturer who ensures that a product delivered to the customer is free of any manufacturing defect should not be held accountable for any injury caused due to misuse of the product. For example, A manufacturer sells a chair which has passed stringent quality checks and has been sold with a warning that it should not be overloaded above 200 pounds. But a customer overloads the chair with 300 pounds and the chair breaks resulting in injury to the customer. The manufacturer should not be held accountable since the customer should have taken care to not overload.

Hence, it is only possible to hold the manufacturer responsible in cases where manufacturer is directly at fault. This can be done only on a case by case basis and cannot be generalized.
