A foot race will be held on Saturday. How many different arrangements of medal winners are possible?

1) Medals will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
2) There are 10 runners in the race.

Certainly, each statement alone is not sufficient as in Statement 1, we do not know the number of runners and in Statement 2, we do not know the number of places.

Combining the two statements works.

> Number of ways the 1st place can be earned = 10;
> Number of ways the 2nd place can be earned = 10 - 1 = 9;
> Number of ways the 3rd place can be earned = 10 - 2 = 8;

Total number of ways = 10*9*8 = 720. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C

Hope this helps!
