A certain apartment has only 1-room and 2-rooms. If the range of the total rental fees for 1-room and 2-rooms combined is $1,000 and the range of the rental fees for 2-rooms is $200, what is the range of the rental fees for 1-room?

1) The smallest rental fee for 2-rooms is $2,800.

2) The smallest rental fee for 2-room is $200 more expensive than the greatest rental fee for 1-room.

Say the smallest and greatest rental fee for 1-room are x and y, respectively.

And the smallest and greatest rental fee for 2-rooms are p and q, respectively.

We have:

q - x = 1000 ---(1)

q - p = 200 ---(2)

Question: y - x =?

Statement 1: The smallest rental fee for 2-rooms is $2,800.

=> p = 2800.

With this information, though we get the value of q and then x, we cannot get the value of y. Insufficient.

Statement 2: The smallest rental fee for 2-room is $200 more expensive than the greatest rental fee for 1-room.

=> p = 200 + y ---(3)

From equations (1) and (2), we get p = 800 + x ---(4)

From equations (3) and (4), we get y - x = 600. Sufficient.

The correct answer: B
