Say the distance between Smithville and Laredo is x miles, Smithville and Ferristown is y miles. thus, the distance between Ferristown and Laredo is (x - y) miles.
We have to get the value of x.
Let's take each statement one by one.
1) The distance from Smithville to Ferristown is 3/5 of the distance from Smithville to Laredo.
Can't find a unique value of x. Insufficient.
2) The distance from Ferristown to Laredo is 12 miles.
Can't find the value of x. Insufficient
(1) and (2) together
From, Statement 2, we have x - y = 12 and from Statement 1, we have y = 3/5 of x = 3x/5
Plugging-in the value of y in x - y = 12, we get x - 3x/5 = 12 => x = 60 miles. Sufficient.
