Hello,

Could anyone please help me solve this problem?

If it takes 6 identical printing presses exactly 4 hours to print 5,000 newspapers, how long will it take 3 of these presses to print 3,000 newspapers?

Ans must be 4hr 48 Min.
But you can deal with such question thru ball parking.
6 press 4 hr 5000 NP
3 press if same hr ( 4hr) 2500 NP so to print 3000NP 3 press will take slightly more than 4 hrs.

If it takes 6 presses 4 hours to do 5,000 papers, it would take 3 presses 8 hours to print 5,000.

to print 3,000 instead of 5,000 it would take just 3/5 of 8 hours or 4 and 4/5 hours = 4 hours 48 minutes.

In the present question, time taken in the introductory task is 4 hours. When efficiency is halved, time taken doubles; and when the task is made 3/5, time taken becomes 3/5 as well.

Hence the time taken in the changed conditions = 4 × 2 × 3/5 = 4.8 hours
