I don't have the OA but I feel the answer is E since finally the equations reduce to X=Y. What is your take?

IMO A.

X/0.3 + Y/0.5 = 1/8

0.5X + 0.3Y/(0.15) = 1/8

O.5X + 0.3Y = 0.15/8

Multiply both the sides by 10,

5X + 3Y = 1.5/8 - Sufficient.

The second statement gives,

3X + 5Y = 1.5/8. We can find 5X + 3Y with this.
So, Statement 2 is insufficient.
