I worked for 3 years at a not for profit and have spent the past two years in education. I have a BA in liberal arts.

Lowest GMAT score at HBS last year was 590. But in order to increase your chances, you might consider taking GMAT again. Practice, practice and more practice can make a big difference!

I think if you are able to highlight your leadership skills through the Not For Profit (which is relatively easier to demonstrate), accountabilitity and scale of impact within your work place and reasons for doing an MBA might just do the trick - significant thinking on those lines, career goals, why MBA, why now, illustrations of your leadership skills, how you could bring business thinking to class environment and why would a school select you, in spite of your GMAT score, will be really key to your application. Of course, a higher GMAT score always demonstrates that you are academically ready to take on the rigor of an MBA program. If not, can you demonstrate your academic prowess in any other way? Particularly numerical, analytical, data analysis side?

I will be very straight forward with you. Your profile is good but your GMAT score is not up to the mark for a top 20 school taking into consideration your years of experience. If at all you are targeting a scholarship, then 640 is not good at all. It also depends on which country you are targeting for your top 20 MBA. In any case, take the GMAT again & prepare well.

Yes, they do accept SPJET and CAT scores as well.
