choice is between is A and D. I chose A too but since u r saying A is not correct, it must be D.
I could think of only one reason, present perfect is not required here

(A) few people have been known to have tasted it

"have been" present perfect
"to have tasted" : what tense would you call this
I hope the problem with A is now clear

not really, to be honest...

I think its more to do with the latter part of the sentence that uses "requesting"

Sentence would have been correct if it was in the past tense..

for ex: Various people have claimed to have known someone who saw the the victory march of the 40s.

In this sentence the use of "requesting" a participle that essentially implies that the practice is still on.. would mean that we use a simple infinitive to address..

and I think that's the reason D is correct.

The Western world’s love affair with chocolate is well-documented: few people have been known to have tasted it for the first time without requesting more.
(A) few people have been known to have tasted it - correct

(B) few having been known to taste it -having been not correct verb tense
(C) it has been tasted by few people - passive voice, eliminate

(D) few people have been known to taste it - taste should be have tasted in order to express that once people have tasted chocolate, they can't resist having more

(E) few people having tasted it - having tasted is wrong tense
