Hi,

I just finished my GMAT and scored a disappointing 600 ( Q-49, V-25). Verbal killed it off for me.

I am an Engineer graduate with 1 complete year of experience. I would like to enroll in a decent University and wont mind doing MS in Finance/Marketing. Is there any possibility I would get a decent university for this mark ? If yes, which are the universities I can get ?

I am just confused a bit now. Any help from u people would be awesome !

Hi

Its sad to know that, do you want to retake...Certainly there are univ's which will accept your scores..If you have a good profile,SOP, LOR , good academics etc...

Work on them im sure you will make it.

Yes I can retake the test. But the thing is that I had prepared well for the test so just have that fear that I ll score the same only. Btw, can u help me with the universities ? Which are the ones I may get ? Any idea ?

I would suggest retaking one more time. I think you can improve your verbal score. What will you tell the adcom when they ask you why did you give-up on GMAT after trying it only once?

Well .. there are a number of things that you might want to consider.

1. Is this the first time you take the test? If yes, definitely you want to take it again, but you want to make sure that you increase your score. Taking a test multiple times shows your commitment to face a challenge if you keep making improvements on your scores. Also, you have a greater chance of boosting your score than those having scores between 670-690 do. However, once you have exceeded the 700 barrier, there is almost no point of increasing your score.

2. If you are content in your decision to retake the test, you want to analyse what you did wrong that you should stop doing and what you didn't do that you want to start doing. For instance, do you think that you lack comprehension on the concept and strategy, or you didn't have enough practice?
Furthermore, did you feel that the questions you saw in real GMAT test somehow have different style from those you saw during your practice and preparation?

I have written a lot in this post about how I improved from 660 to 720. It took me three tests to come up with the right strategy. I hope that you wouldn't have to follow my path :)
