Known to its considerable opposition as "Seward's Folly", the purchase of Alaska was not unlike that of the Louisiana territory, which provided the United States with new land, a strategy military position, and control of the entire Mississippi River valley.

(A) not unlike that of the Lousiana territory, which provided
(B) not unlike the Lousiana territory, which provided
(C) like the Lousisana territory, which provided
(D) like that of the Lousisoana territory for providing
(E) as that of the Lousians territory for providing

Aye Mate,

The question doesn't seem right. Choice A does not match the text in the question. Could you please recheck and make the necessary alterations? And if you can underline the part which needs to be corrected it would be very useful for the students.

Thanks.

For clarity, let me para-phrase the question:
The purchase of X was like that of Y, which provided ....

My Question: what does "which" modify?
purchase of X, purchase of Y, or Y itself(the closest antecedent)?
