Hi, I took a practice test with no study and got 550, my quant score wasn't great but then I haven't studied maths for 10 years so I should be able to pick it up quite quickly once I start reviewing the materials. I want to get 700 but just wanted to know if it's better to take the test after 60 days which would be just before Christmas or in the new year? Problem is I'm going on a 3 week holiday at Christmas, I was thinking that might break my momentum if I couldn't study much over that 3 week period and then picked it up again when I got back. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi Rachel,
Your first practice CAT is right in line with the national average for the Official GMAT, so you're "starting" at a decent position. 700+ is the 90th percentile, meaning that 90% of Test Takers can't hit that score. Regardless of an individual's goals, I usually recommend a 3-month study period to hit one's peak score (sometimes it takes more time, sometimes less). A 3-week vacation could impact your studies, but there are some other questions that should probably be answered first:
1) When do you want to apply to school?
2) Where do you want to apply to school?
