2. Is x < y?
(1) z < y
(2) z < x

The answer cannot be A its logical.... theres no relation between z and x which is mentioned in stmt 1 and both stmts together wont answer the question yes or no.... Im sure its E.

I think so too.:) I think the answer in the text must be wrong!
