Did you take the test after studying for some time? If not, then you have plenty of scope to improve.

My first practice test about 2 mths ago was a low 530.

Of course you can. What was your raw score in Quant and Verbal?

Thanks. I scored 39 correct in Quant and 17 in verbal.
I had warmed up myself for the last 3 weeks. Got a feel of the entire test and went through all concepts for VErbal and Quant. I did do practise problems too.

What is your background? Are you a native English speaker? Are you used to American English or Commonwealth English?

I do follow english pretty well. But, the RC in GMAT really troubles me coz its so boring that I lose interest after a few lines! My RC questions were almost all wrong.
And,regards to your question: I am used to both American and commonwealth English. Basic English is not the issue for me.

And I took the diagnostic tests on OG-12 for Quant and again got just 1/4th of the questions right.
I think I am seriously in trouble. Are the Diagnostic tests of OG really so hard that even after having an overview of the GMAT quest types, I did so miserably?

Following BTG's [60-Day Study Guide]. Gave the test last night on the 3rd day and scored 450. Exam date is on 2nd Nov.
I think the score was better in quant then in Verbal. Any thoughts on the way forward is welcome and with 2 months to go and 3-4 hours of effort daily what kind of score can i look forward to.

Well, you have just started your prep, isn't it? And this is just a diagnostic test.
I think there is a lot of scope to improve for you.

I got a 430 on my first test and last night got a 680 on a Manhatten CAT so you can defenitly improve. I used a combination of Knewton and this site and have seen a dramatic increase in my scoring over the last month.

430 Knewton on 7/28
590 Knewton on 8/16
600 Knewton on 8/28
680 Manhatten on 9/1

Finally, I got a 540 today on MGMAT CAT after a meticulous prep since the last 2 weeks. I am happy but also wondering how the pool of questions is for MGMAT.
Also, does anyone know how the scoring algorithm of MGMAT is in comparison to the actual test/prep test?

from the V17 i think it can inferred that he is not a pure native english speaker...There are almost 11-12 SC questions + as it is CAT as he was doing bad ...he must have got low level questions in verbal question which most native speakers would have killed....
