IMO B is the answer.

A is passive.

C changes meaning.

D is a fragment.

Because of the use of "that".. the relative pronoun functioning as a subject for the object "it" (asteroid)

Sorry, I don't think that I am able to understand what you meant here.

Can you please explain the same in a bit more detail by giving some simple example.
