by cdas » Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:13 am
Hi,am a doctor with zero quant background.Took my first sample test and scored miserable 420..anyways,fixed the d-day as 26/05/2012.Have been studying as following:
1)subscribed to 60 day GMAT mails(unable to keep pace with them due to various reasons)
2)Completed MGMAT Basic fundamentals of Maths(this atleast helped me to start preparing!)
3)Have started studying OG & MGMAT 8 Strategy guides as per 60 dy mail pattern

Am very confused regarding my preparation...Plz advice regarding study plan (can easily devote around 5-6 hrs everyday)
Am getting more panicky with each passing day..plzzzz help!

In which prep mock test did you score the 420 ?
What is the quant and verbal split up ?
What is your target score ?

If you haven't taken a GMATPrep test then go for it. Before taking a GMAT Prep mock test try to review any basic material to give you an idea about the test.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

You can maximize either quant or verbal to get your target score of 650. Verbal usually takes a lot of time for non native speakers while quant is easier to improve in a short span. MGMAT strategy guides are excellent for both quant and verbal, but it doesn't cover much of the basics in quant. You can use this book for quant 'Nova's GMAT Prep Course - https://www.amazon.com/Novas-GMAT-Prep-C ... 795&sr=8-1' - this doesn't have very advanced problems but a good one for beginners. Once you are finished with this book, you can go for OG clubbed with MGMAT. If you are planning to improve verbal then MGMAT SC, Powerscore CR and Ron's videos for RC/MGMAT RC are must. MGMAT CR is also good if you don't have any problem in identifying question types. Since you have MGMAT guides you will also be having access to MGMAT tests. Take solid 2 or 3 to finish all the basics, strategy guides and OG problems simultaneously take one mock test a week and analyse your weak areas. Once you have gone through the basics you can hone your weak topics using your mock tests. Review those topics and solve the problems again with more time for review. Understand the concepts.

You wouldn't find better advice than these on how to solve, learn and review the problems. Check out all the posts for Ron's reply and subsequent links posted in each of his replies.
