I first took my GMAT on the beginning of June and got an awkward 350 (after 3 months of studies with work, kids...). I didn't know what to do at that point. I already purchased my airline ticket to visit my country.So no way I could cancel the ticket (of course money matters) and went to India. Just a couple of days before I found out about this forum (Oh I wish found it earlier!) After 1 month I came back and found that I can still apply for this semester if I can get my GMAT done by that time period. I know there is unlimited material to cover but in such a short time it was a pain. I decided to work on my math only. For 15 days I practiced my math only from OG 11 and Princeton mathwork out (so far I could devote 4 hours for studying everyday). Did not do anything for verbal, just took the CAT simulations on V. I took my second GMAT last night and received a 55 percentile in quant and surprisingly my verbal score was the same as my first attempt (20

). The school where I am applying requires a 450. So I don't know whether I should take my GMAT again or just wait to hear back from the school.
I think I should take a preparation class if I get rejected from the school. Untill then won't look at that Orange book!!

It doesn't hurt to go ahead and apply to the school if their minimum is 450. The worst they can say is no and then you can plan to retake the GMAT if that was the only thing keeping you out.

350 to 490 is a lot of improvement though! It can be tough coming to this forum and reading all of the posts from people complaining about their "horrible" scores of 690 and so forth, but you don't need those kind of scores for the school you are planning to attend, and you have improved a great deal in the time you have spent so far. That's definitely an accomplishment to be proud of! If you do end up needing to retake the test, you will also have a lot less difficulty getting the score you need than those trying to get 700+.

So give yourself a pat on the back for what you've been able to accomplish so far and send in that application!

Thanks. Feel much better now. One thing I now know that GMAT is all about how fast one can take the correct decison, which is very important in the corporate world. Specially now during this time of economic depression... Any ways, anybody who is preparing for GMAT try to be specialized in time management and that's the only way to achieve higher score. When I started seeing difficult questions in math I became so happy that I even started double checking my answers just to make sure I maintain the difficulty level and that's a big mistake. First 15 questions are really important but don't ignore the last part of the question sets. Better plan on to guess on the last three questions which is perfectly all right since the computer has already a pretty good idea about the grasp of knowledge that you have. That way you can have more time for the other 34 questions.
