I don't remember the exact sectional scores in each of the attempts as there are too many attempts to remember those figures, but the Quant score in all three attempts was around 41 and the verbal score was around 31, give and take 2 points in each attempt.smackmartine wrote:Can you share your quants and verbal scores you got in your previous attempts ?@eternal_optimist wrote :

thank you eternal_optimist for your inspirational post. i just took the gmat today (2nd attempt) and was incredibly discouraged to see that my score had gone down 10 pts. i guess i should be glad my score didn't drop significantly, right? either way, i'm scoring close to what you got in your first 3 attempts....which is nowhere near what i am aiming for. feeling super disappointed and want to give up. i know i have more tenacity and fight in me....but it's hard to believe that right now and it's making me wonder if b school is really what i want. hoping to have a breakthrough moment like your "coach carter" experience to energize me for the long haul sooner rather than later.... i hope i see similar results as yours at the end of my gmat journey

Hey, I know how you must be feeling because I have been in your situation. Taking this phase as an opportunity for introspection. Yes, you should really be asking whether business school is the right choice for you? Who knows there might be something you are better at and you may wanna do that instead of going to a business school. However, if you really feel that you need and MBA, then don't back down. Prepare the way I did and I can guarantee you that you'll come out with flying colors!nyun wrote:thank you eternal_optimist for your inspirational post. i just took the gmat today (2nd attempt) and was incredibly discouraged to see that my score had gone down 10 pts. i guess i should be glad my score didn't drop significantly, right? either way, i'm scoring close to what you got in your first 3 attempts....which is nowhere near what i am aiming for. feeling super disappointed and want to give up. i know i have more tenacity and fight in me....but it's hard to believe that right now and it's making me wonder if b school is really what i want. hoping to have a breakthrough moment like your "coach carter" experience to energize me for the long haul sooner rather than later.... i hope i see similar results as yours at the end of my gmat journey

I was feeling quite depressed today as I scored a pathetic 650 on the first practice test. Logged on to BTG after a long time. Was searching for some motivation when I came across your post. Amazingly brilliant. Just don't have words to say after reading your roller coaster journey.
Now I realize what a fool I have been moaning over a 650. On the other hand, you actually got sub-600 scores on three ACTUAL GMAT attempts and then also didn't give up. Kudos to you,man!

Thank you so much for this post. I'm trying to erase a 440 embarrassment from my record. My biggest fear is to see a drop in my score or an insufficient increase the next time I take this test. But your post gave me some peace. If that happens, so what? I can re-try again. It won't be the end of the world.
I hope that won't be the case, though, because I'm on a 5.5 month prep path that I devised for myself. I'm almost half way through, and I'm already feeling pretty confident. Anyway, thank you so much for setting my mind straight and reminding me of my inner peace & confidence.

Glad to hear that my post was able to inspire you. Keep going!
Thank you for the story, I especially like your approach to first strengthen your fundamental by improving your core competencies! I am essentially doing the same thing by reading articles from reputable publications and listen to radio shows (Bloomberg radio). I also enrolled myself in basic math classes in local community colleges to get a better grasp on the concept. I have been working for a while now and have not been in a classroom environment, so I thought it necessary to at least myself accustome to the learning environment again before I have to sit in a much more rigorious MBA classroom.
Thank you again, and best of luck to any future endeavors!

@ariz
Thanks. I think that you are going the right way. Keep up the tempo and I think that you should be on your way to glory
@behbette
Thanks, people from S.E. Asia incidentally happen to have the highest average GMAT scores across the world. Hope you're able to match them

Great,great story. Reading your story was indeed like watching a movie, as one of the member has stated above. BTG will remember this story as one of the best ones for a long time to come! Personally, I found the story inspirational not only for the GMAT but for life. You proved the saying "where there is a will, there's a way" correct!

Thanks. I'm sure that there will be many more storeis of metamorphosis which will come here on BTG over the years. The spirit of human endeavor is something which is very strong and once a person sets his mind to a task, the victory will be always at his feet, even if it gets delayed sometimes.

Thanks mate. All the best! Keep rocking BTG!

- GMAT Score:720
Wow,I have to tell you that after reading this, I just burst into tears! I have been going about in circles ever since 2009 when I decided to give the GMAT and scored a measly 540. I was nowhere competent to get a 700+ score! Not well read or even adept at calculations ( I am one of those people who maintain a neat column in my page, just for calculations
) The thought of mental math just gives me the creepies
And I keep fantasizing about a 750 plus score..
Reading your post just showed me how stupid I was..Thank you so much for this. You've opened my eyes.
A question: My work life like yours, is really hectic and once I get back from work, I am too tired to motivate myself to study. Do you have any suggestions? I've just bought a Red Bull 4 pack btw..
