While I was in college I didn't take my studies seriously and ended up with a 2.6 GPA in Business. My last 2 years were actually my worst academically because of increased work hours and family issues. Is there a chance I can get into any decent business school? I know top tier is definitely out eventhough that'd be a nice dream come true. I graduated 3 years ago and will take the GMAT in May/June.

Any advice?

Don't let the GPA discourage you....I wished that I had a 2.6 GPA :). My undergraduate GPA was about as close to a 2.0 as you can get without actually going under. Your expectations of getting into an ivy league school aren't exactly stellar, however with a little searching, you can find a program. Remember, MBA's like any other program are marketed, and Business schools need students. Don't be afraid to contact schools and inquire about provisional admittance, some schools might want you to build an alternative transcript.

Business schools need people in their programs, some business programs can be picky, some can't. The one's that need people don't necessarily have a less quality education, they just haven't built the prestige.

Take a couple of classes now to show that you can handle the courseload. Then forget about the GPA and think about the other parts of the application that you still have control over - everything else. You definitely can get in somewhere. Good luck!

What sort of classes would help "reshape" a non-stellar transcript??

thanks for the well wishes! I'm just worried about getting into a top program. I'd like to get into a top 25 school but am worried about my GPA and work experience. what else could balance those on an app to a top program? Is a top program even an option?
