Of 1400 college teachers surveyed, 42% said they considered research essential. How many teachers surveyed were women?
a. In survey 36% of men and 50% of women said they considered research essential
b. 288 men said they considered research essential

WHats the answer?

From 1,
let 100x men and 100y women are surveyed
hence x+y=14 and 36x+50y=14*42
or 36*14+14y=14*42
or 36+y=42
or y=6
number of women surveyed 600..sufficient

From 2
we can only get the number of women who said that research is essential not the total number of women surveyed.. insufficient
