Rembrandt so treasured his collection of Islamic portraits that when forced to sell them in order to raise money, he first made copies of more than twenty.

(A) he first made copies of more than twenty (correct)
(B) first he made copies of more than twenty (first = adverb...should modify verb 'made')
(C) more than twenty were copied (wr correct ...bcoz of More; but passive construction; lack independent clause)
(D) copies of more than twenty were made (need independent clause - 'when...money, he...' might hv been correct; passive construction)
