All those who keep a journal will be heard by the next generation. Some of these journal writers are true artists, others humorous observers of the commonplace, and still others insufferable egotists who feel compelled to record their every thought.
If the statements above are true, which one of the following must be true?
(A) Not all of those who are humorous observers of the commonplace will be heard by the next generation.
(B) Everyone who will be heard by the next generation keeps a journal.
(C) The next generation will hear both insufferable egotists and true artists.
(D) Some of those who keep journals are not true artists, humorous observers of the commonplace, or insufferable egotists.
(E) The next generation will bear some of those who are true artists but not all of them.

"Some" can be a confusing word in CR questions. The correct logical translation of some is "at least one". There is NO upper limit on some - in other words, "some" could mean "all".

In the above question, the only choice that MUST be true is (c). We know that ALL journal keepers will be heard by the next generation and we know that some journal keepers are true artists and/or insufferable egotists. Therefore, we know that at least those true artists and insufferable egotists who keep journals WILL be heard by the next generation.

Let me try to explain all the options:

(A) Not all of those who are humorous observers of the commonplace will be heard by the next generation. - We know that some of the humorous observers keep journals, but we they could be the only one who are humourous observers. As Stuart mentioned, 'some' could mean 'all'. Hence this statement may or may not be true.
(B) Everyone who will be heard by the next generation keeps a journal. - The passage says that everyone who keep journal will be heard by next gen. But there could be more people who could be heard by next gen.
(C) The next generation will hear both insufferable egotists and true artists. - As some of the people who keep journals are insufferable egotists and some of them are true artists, The next gen will surely hear both of them.
(D) Some of those who keep journals are not true artists, humorous observers of the commonplace, or insufferable egotists. - We do not know this from the passage. There could be none.
(E) The next generation will bear some of those who are true artists but not all of them. - Again, we can not say for sure whether only some of the true artists keep journal (and hence would be heard by nex gen) or all.

I think E has a scope shift of "bear". When all that is mentioned in the passage is "heard" by the next generation.
