Bryan discovers at the end of the summer that his radiator antifreeze solution has dropped below the safe level. If the radiator contains 4 gallons of a 255 solution, how many gallons of pure antifreeze must he add to bring it up to a desired 50% solution?

What does "If the radiator contains 4 gallons of a 255 solution" mean?

This was my approach

amount of pure antifreeze = x gallons

since we have to add "pure antifreeze" to the solution it would be 100% (x)

desired = 50%(255)

but how do i interpret "4 gallons of a 255 solution"

Experts, please help

Thank you

@force5

I just edited my post. The "4 gallons of a 255 solution" is not a typo. That is how the problem is worded

Given that "shift-5" = %, I'm pretty sure that it should be 25%, not 255.

Change 255 to 25% and the question makes sense.
