________________________________________________________________

My goal is to come back to India after graduation and expand my family business and help diversify in the education field itself.. I want to increase it's reach using platforms such as video conferencing, e-learning etc
I am interested in pursuing an MBA in General Management / Entrepreneurship

Given that I am younger than most applicants, which schools are reasonable for my profile? I know that I am younger than most applicants but due to certain reasons, I wish to apply this year itself. Can I consider schools such as Mccombs,Goizueta and Marshall as target schools? or are these a stretch for me?

Additionally, what range of schools can I consider as safe schools?

Thanks for all the help....... :D :D

Thanks for contacting Clear Admit for some advice about your candidacy. I think there's actually quite a bit to like about your profile . . . one of the biggest challenges that Indian candidates have to overcome is differentiating themselves from the thousands and thousands of other Indian candidates who are applying to MBA programs. Your work experience, while certainly limited in duration, definitely helps you stand out given that you're in an atypical industry for Indians and seem to be able to show good impact on your family business with robust results. It's also somewhat rare for early career people to have leadership positions like yours. Your very strong GMAT will also help garner attention, and I think your goals are likely to sound intuitive and well-reasoned.

Before you get too excited, though, the roughly two years of work experience at the time of enrollment is still going to be a sticking point for almost every top school out there. Some will also get hung up on the fact that you went to the University of Mumbai rather than an IIT. Recommendations may also be problematic since you're at a family business, and you obviously can't ask a family member to write a letter for you. Lastly, a key question you'll need to address satisfactorily is why now - you'll have to present very compelling reasons why you've elected to apply now rather than in another two or so years as is most typical for candidates. Lots of potential flags to overcome.

So you asked about your competitiveness at McCombs, Goizueta, and Marshall . . . I don't see them as full-blown stretch schools, but not quite target programs, either. I think they could be feasible as long as you can position your profile, experiences, and connections to each school with a well thought out strategy and show that your work experience is of very high quality in spite of the low quantity. I certainly wouldn't call you crazy for applying to those schools, especially since your GMAT is so far above their average.

To identify a few other programs that you could consider target and safety, the most brute-force way is to look at average GMATs - pick ones where your score is at or above the top end of their 80th percentile range. Then short list further by schools that meet your general management/entrepreneurial needs. I'd also look at programs that have quality education programs, too, since you might be able to take some graduate-level education courses as electives.

I hope that helps, and please feel free to contact me directly if you'd like to discuss your applications further.

Regards,
Jon
