If you targeted 550-600 and scored 540 and are unhappy, would a 10 point increase make you happy? Scored of 540 and 550 are the same for adcoms. Don't fret over those 10 points.
If you are to retake, be sure that you increase the score by atleast 30. Else, it might just create a wrong impression.Good Luck!!

I agree with Karan. I think that you should think about retaking the GMAT only if the average GMAT scores of the schools you are applying to is at least a 600,otherwise plus minus 20 points don't much much difference.

MGMAT and OG would give you more than what you'll need to score 600. You need to just brush off your concepts and you'll score 600 easily.
practice 600 level quant sums. Make sure you understand the sums thoroughly. That should do the trick..

I'd say give it another go. If you felt stressed out on the actual exam date, then that could have affected your quant score. With a 540, you definitely have room to improve, even if you feel studied out.
If you didn't like GMAT Prep or the MGMAT math, why don't you try the BTG practice questions? They're math problems are pretty good.
Best of Luck,
Mark
