I am preparing for the GMAT test and right now everything looks good. Unfortunately I stumbled over an issue regarding the following type of Question in the Data Sufficiency Section in the Cracking the GMAT book.
What is the value of y?
(1) y is an even integer such that -1.5 < y < 1.5
(2) For any integer a =/ 0, ay =0
The answer would be D since in both statements the answer would be 0 for both statements. This sounds completely logical to me but what if the change the question a bit:
What is the value of y?
(1) y is an even integer such that 1.5 < y < 2.5
(2) For any integer a =/ 0, ay =0
Would the answer still be D? The results for both statements would be different but both (Statement 1 = 2, Statement 2 = 0) can be solved on their own and therefore are alone sufficient.
