In their studies of botany, scientists have researched and discover many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, whose applications came slowly and unpredictably.

discover many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, whose applications came

discover many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, that had applications coming

discover many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, with the applications for them coming

discovered many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, with applications for the discoveries coming

discovered many of the causes of certain natural phenomena, whose applications has come

think D should be the answer.

because of "have researched" in the non underline portion, sentence needs a past participle "discovered".
this eliminates A,B,C.

out of D and E, in E i think "whose" is ambiguous, it can either refer to causes/natural phenomena or studies.

What is the OA ?

IMO E

"discover" is wrong because there is no reason to change tense

"with application" is adverbial of preceding clause which modify previous clause. in other words, the adverbial modify both subject and verb of the clause.Because it modify subject of clause, if must be in logic place. the adverbial is not logic to modify "scientis"

but E is wrong because "has" can not go with "applications"

this question is wrong.

a,b and c are out on parallelism...

e has subject verb and modifier issues

IMO E. I eliminated D coz of 'with' which seems to mean that scientists researched and doscivered with something...

I would go for E, only if the sentence had "applications HAVE come". But it is "has come"...
D is the best one.

E should be the right answer. The subject is about the scientists, researching and discovering ..., whose applications came slowly...

with applications is incorrect usage
