CR medium difficulty

12. Fact 1: Television advertising is becoming less effective: the proportion of brand names promoted on television that viewers of the advertising can recall is slowly decreasing.
Fact 2: Television viewers recall commercials aired first or last in a cluster of consecutive commercials far better than they recall commercials aired somewhere in the middle.
Fact 2 would be most likely to contribute to an explanation of fact 1 if which of the following were also true?
(A) The average television viewer currently recalls fewer than half the brand names promoted in commercials he or she saw.
(B) The total time allotted to the average cluster of consecutive television commercials is decreasing.
(C) The average number of hours per day that people spend watching television is decreasing.
(D) The average number of clusters of consecutive commercials per hour of television is increasing.
(E) The average number of television commercials in a cluster of consecutive commercials is increasing.

My vote would be E.

For me, the key word that jumps out in Fact 1 is 'proportion'. As fact 2 states, people are more likely to recall the first or last commercial in a cluster series. If advertising is becoming less effective (proportionally), then fact 2 play the part to suggest that the number of commercials in each cluster is increasing.

As a result, I like E.

well... would go with D
Adv is less effective
People can recollect just the first and last adv ..no middle pls..

So advertisers will try to put their adv in first or last in every cluster....
which means no of cluster wll increase...

close contender would be total time decrease but....which in vauguely mean reverse..so out..

I say E here.

If the proportion commercials not recalled to commercials recalled is decreasing and people can't recall the commercials in the middle of a cluster but they can recall the first or last commercial, the # of commercials in the middle must be increasing.

D- # clusters is increasing- not the # of middle commercials
E- # of commercials per cluster is increasing. Because there's only 1 first or last commercial, the # of middle commericials is increasing.

More times a cluster is shown per hour more viewers will remember as more will be start/end addv.
Longer spells of a cluster/more adds in a cluster than distributing them across impliess less adds in start and end.
Hence E

its of course E.

imagine the extreme case that in the past there were only 2 commercials per cluster. So people would remember the first and the last i.e. in this case all commercials. (fact 2).

Now the cluster is longer today as in the past, lets say 10 commercials per cluster. people would not recall the 8 commercials in the middle (fact 2) and hence they would recall only 2 out of 10 (20%) instead of 100% as they did before. (fact1)

IMO D

The average number of clusters of consecutive commercials per hour of television is increasing

People can recollect only First and last Ads
If the average number of clusters per hour increase... Duration of consecutive commercials decrease, which means number of first and last Ads increase

If this fact is true , it helps Fact2 to properly explain Fact1.
