Knewton Free test - total dissapointment

by sunnyjohn » Sat Jul 23, 2011 10:23 pm
Hi, I heard a lot about Knewton so I thought of enrolling into their course. I was taking its free GMAT test today and found that its a total disappointment.

It keeps throwing error whenever I want to select the answer. I was on 26th Question of Quant and time remaining was 33 mins. I keep choosing the answer and it keeps throwing the error. At the last, at the 27th min, I gave up and closed the test.

Error: Error saving your answer choice, please try again.

just to show that I am not making a story, I have taken a screen shot of the error. Attached is the same.

In my opinion- if the system is not stable, at least pause the clock.

Oh that's really sad.

I keep thinking all test prep companies should make their tests available offline and always come with a pause/exit mechanism. Some test prep companies dont let you buy the tests, you have to buy the book if you want the free test.

What if I want to take some tests immediately but buying the books means that wait till the book comes. And if you get it, then we end up issues such as the one you faced.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Yeah,
Agree, but I have taken MGCAT, KapTest and Veritas - they all works perfectly.

Surprisingly Knewton got this issue.

so far my experience with MGCAT is best, atleast I can pause the test in case if I have to attend an urgent phone call etc....

but MGCAT and Kaptest, Specially Kaplan, have a big problem, a very small screen.

ya cos u have to use the browser, right?
You can fix it to some extent by making the browser go full screen.

Just to add on, I also faced this problem. I was using google crome. However I did not freak out and close the test. The problem just exists erratically for 30-40 secs. Can be really irritating.
Cheers !!

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that we've reached out to the users with technical issues privately, and resolved the problems they experienced. If anyone else is having problems, please do let us know so that we can make sure everything is getting taken care of.

In regards to the questions about making our CATs downloadable and available offline, I don't foresee this is as something Knewton will be moving towards in the future. Since our course is built upon an adaptive learning engine, we need to make sure the content is living in our database (online) and tagging the concepts that are the most difficult for you to be placed in your Concept Queue. I'll be sure we keep this suggestion in mind though as we iterate our product and course.

Thanks,
Caitlin

Hi,
Yup, this is a problem with Knewton. I faced it several times. In fact, not just during tests, but also while solving practice questions(home works, although they are 'off the clock')But 6 mins for a single question? I never faced that. As bblast has mentioned it is probably for a few seconds. I know it is frustrating. I hope Knewton tech dept solve this issue pretty soon. Otherwise, Knewton tests are really good. I had one more problem as well. I have lost my internet connection because of power loss to my router when I was left with 55 mins. So, I closed my browser. After 20 mins or so, power was back and I tried to resume it. But, the timer showed 33 mins. That means timer didn't stop. So, I have told them about this issue and they actually reset my entire section on the same day. This was Diagnostic test. I hope I don't face such problems while taking the remaining 5 tests. So, I request Knewton support to see if they can actually stop the timer at least when internet connection is lost.
Cheers!
