Can you describe your study strategy some more? How have you been attacking these materials?

I recommend a strategy based on identifying weaknesses and thoroughly analyzing/improving upon them. There are a lot of resources on this website to help you tailor your strategy!

Hi Eric,

I started with Kaplan book ,Went through all the strategies all the sections. Solved all the problems in the book in one go in some days. Then,Started analyzing them.I think here I made themistake if I would have solved set of 30-40 questions and then analyzed them one by one this would have been better approch than solving all the questions at one go and then analyzing all of them in the bulk for several days.

Some times for the difficult problems I use to stuck and was not able to understand the given explanation of the problems so, I use to skip such problems with a mark.

Same way I solved the OG 11.The last 30-40 problems for each verbal sections where really difficult for me.Even, I read the explanation multiple times.I was not able to get much so, finally I skip such problems.

The OG 11 I solved in a month with some breaks. There were some days where I didn't studied at all.

After some days finishing OG 11 I gave the POWERPERP -1 test.I got 430(Q-39,V-12).While giving the test I find following problems:

Problem 1] I had made some carelesss errors in Quant.
Problem 2] Verbal initial questions went wrong :(
Problem 3] In the last 30 mins I was in the hurry.I think I have time management problem in case of Verbal.I finished Quant before time.

Problem 4] For some RCs and CRs I was not able to get the main idea of what auther is saying so I use to re-read the entire passage again and again. This had very bad impact on my timings and I end up having very less time for last 10-15 questions.

Looking at the test pattern and my overall perp I have decided following things:

1]I have ability to score min 50 in Q so,I'll solve all the maths problems from OG 10,OG 11,OG Review Books,Kaplan Premier. This time I won't slove all the problems in the bulk I'll solve set of 30-40 problems each time and will analyze them on the same days without any gaps.

2]I'm very very weak in Verbal So,I need to focus on my weak ares and give more time to clear my concepts from the fundamental books like Manhatton SC,Manhatton RC +CR.
Unless I'm clear with all the basics and concepts of verbal I won't touch any verbal problems.

I had exam on this 26 th(26 th JAN),But,Post ponding it till 29 th March

I hope in next 2 months I'll be able to progress dramatically on my poor verbal scores.

In case, you have any suggestions for the strategy at this point of time in this condition please let me know.

Please let me know ,Am I following right way or there exists a easier way and apporch to the whole thing.

I'm bit frustrated with the Verbal scores

But,I hope I'll on the track soon.My target GMAT score is 700 +.To get admission in good B-School I need balanced scores in both Verbal and Quant.

Thanks for all your help and quick replies to my questions till this point of time.

It will be great if you can guide me to improve my overall approch and way of study.

Thanks,
Ajay

Thanks for sharing the details of your prep. My recommendation is to take some time to put together a strong study strategy, examples can be found here:

It sounds like Verbal is going to be your biggest challenge and biggest opportunity to improve your score. You have purchased the right books--MGMAT textbooks are a must, so take time to study those concepts.

While covering these concepts, be sure to practice with OG materials to test the concepts you've learned. Also, I strongly recommend that you participate a lot in the Verbal discussion areas of this forum. By posting questions and answering other people's questions, you will get lots of community feedback on how to master the various types of questions!

Hope that this helps to get you started, best of luck!

Also remember that timing is critical - you described how your timing went wrong (especially in verbal) and that has a SERIOUS downward impact on your score, especially given the number of problems on which you had to rush. Every question counts the same amount as every other question, so if you spend way too much time on some questions (and, really, probably get most of those wrong, b/c you'd never spend way too much time on questions that you can answer), that's going to cost you on the questions you can't get to in time.
