south africa

by nafiul9090 » Sat Apr 23, 2011 1:04 am
By showing that South Africa does not have a free market and is in fact a kind of collectivist welfare state for Whites only, Sowell argues that American conservatives have no valid ideological grounds to be in sympathy with the Pretoria regime.

(A) to be in sympathy with
(B) to sympathize with
(C) for sympathizing with
(D) that they should sympathize with
(E) that they should have sympathy for

i am confused in b and c???

americans are showing sympathy on south african people, who lived in a period of/called pretoria.
Sowell - "We dont want to be sympathized with the pretoria regime."

B is likely but I have questions..

we dont want to be sympathized for our struggles during the regime- this is what I was expecting.
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..

Yep you are right confusing between b abd c .In test environment i would have choosen B .But its C . After doing some resaerch found some concepts on grounds of IDIOM :-

"Grounds to" is not a correct idiom, so we can eliminate A and B.
"Grounds for" is idiomatically correct.
Although "grounds that" can be correct, when it's negated ("no grounds"), the correct idiom is "no grounds for."

Personally i dont like the IDIOM concept at all . I am looking for strategies of solving SC without going for too much knowledge of IDIOM , i had read many post from experts too that says that we wn't get a question solely to be judged on basis of IDIOM .So hoping for best , looking at the broader picture of sentence meaning . I don't remember idioms and i hate remembering formulas and idioms :) .

Im with you on this AIM. but i also think there will be some choices which we can eliminate on the basis of idioms, but again we cant remember them all. it will no doubt be an added advantage.
so im trying to learn atleast the ones mentioned in og 12.

Wonder why the experts dont reply to Verbal as often as they do to Quant questions.

I really want to know why C is correct and B is wrong.

i read somehwere by one of the experts that they are too concerned abt the quality of materials posted here. random sources, unofficial ones, dubious answer chocies, incorrect questions - not to say all but there are enough to turn the experts away who always advise us (and correctly so) to study only from reliable sources.
and also they are concerned whn the posts get too technical - SC is all about eliminating choices and gettin to the right one, not to dissect each and evry answer choice to the bare and improve our grammar skills.

I agree. Sometimes, I find myself spending time on questions that are not perfect.

SC is definitely about eliminating. But if our concepts are not clear, we cant begin elimination either. :(

I too agree with you guys . My achilles heel is SC , others areas can be improved but SC seems to be stagnant for me , sometimes after solving questions at forum my morale gets sinking , i refer back to official sources for some relief . Vineesh & Rohu , guys what you think more can be done to perform above 80% on SC ?

Seriously bro.

When I first bought the Verbal review on SC and solved it, I hit 94 out of 113. And I had a few careless mistakes too. But when I gave the test, I struggled with SC and had to guess many SC questions.

Since then, never been good with SC. I have gone through the MGMAT SC guide once (been 9 months though). But still not confident of doing SC well.

I think we need a database of questions which addresses all SC issues. We need to identify the regular GMAT patterns. Solve about 500 problems which represent GMAT.
