Retake: Strategy for final days

by szaronsj » Fri Aug 03, 2007 5:35 pm
Hi all-

I posted here a few months ago after I had taken my first GMAT. My practice exams the week prior to the initial exam were:

PR: 690
GMATPrep: 730
PR: 760

Actual GMAT score: 610

Needless to say, I was pretty shocked. The odd thing was that my quant score, which is usually higher than veral, was 47 percentile.

So now it's a few months later. My practice scores in the past week:

Kaplan: 710
Manhattan GMAT: 710
Kaplan: 760
Manahattan GMAT: 700

THe plan is to two more Manhattan tests, one more Kaplan, and the final GMATPrep. Any thoughts on this strategy for the next few days? Any thoughts on my scores and chances of scoring a 700+? I feel a bit confident, but I do not want whatever happened last time to occur again.

Thanks.

If you are taking tests, make sure you spend enough time going through the questions once the test is done to get the most out of the test taking experience. Its not only important to go over the questions you got wrong but also important to go over the questions you got correct.

I would advise against Kaplan tests however.

Yesterday I got a 720 on MGMAT. Today is Sunday and the test is on Tuesday.

I was planning on just taking the final GMATPrep test today. After that, I was going to analyze all of the recent tests that I have taken.

My concern, however, is that I have seen other posts that advise avoiding a lot of practice tests right before the actual exam. I thought this would be a good strategy for me because the first time I think my problem was timing. Specifically, I think I had trouble letting go of questions that I could not get an answer to. I had seen posts from Stacy earlier that claimed MGMAT tests help to correct this by having such difficult questinos on the test that it teaches you to move on when necessary. Thus far I think it has in fact been very helpful for me.

So again the plan - take the last GMATPrep test (now), then review for the rest of today, review a bit lighter tomorrow but no practice tests, then go in on Tuesday.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

hmm I just gone through your old thread: https://www.beatthegmat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2809

While you're taking your final GMAT Prep and you still have couple of days left for the real test
I have some suggestion for you:
You can go on taking GMAT prep test continuously ( not seriously though) just to check all problems in software database/bank.
Of course you dont check your score but you can go through their question types and explanations of the answers...

thats just a suggestion. I see no problem in your strat. Go ahead.

And all the best :)
