Some background: I am currently a nurse practitioner. I work in primary care and my hours have some flexibility. Up to this point I've only been considering two schools near me. Both are AASCB accredited, one in person and one online/in person if I want to. They're definitely not top 10/top 50 schools, but my goal is to move up in my career to a practice medical director or move to the hospital side of things and become a VP of some sort (but stay in healthcare). Would it make sense, if I can get a score that will get me into one of those schools and get accepted, for me to attend a program like that? I am not sure how flexible programs are, and I would not want to leave my current job, but I am only an hour away from Boston and Dartmouth, and Boston has lots of good schools there. Would it even matter in the long run, or should I just stick with the local schools? I really would want to avoid having to cut my hours back or quit altogether as I like practicing. Thanks!
My advice is to look at the best schools you can get into as that will open up your professional opportunities- even in healthcare space. Part of the biggest value of the MBA is the professional network you take with you for the rest of your life- so I would really think about that part. You may be able to work one or two shifts a week if you can manage this so that you keep up your skills but to think you can be a full-time Nurse practitioner and a full-time MBA sounds like a prescription for exhaustion... (couldn't resist the pun here- sorry!) But in any case you will always regret if you did not explore every option before pulling the trigger so I suggest you do that!
