[spoiler]Choice A is a fragment (no active verb related to the action of the archaeologist)
Choice B is a run on sentence with alternative passive/active voice, and with "they" referring back to the ship, which does not make much sense.
Choice C is fine and likely the correct answer (though a bit awkward)
Choice D changes the point of the original sentence from focusing on what was found to the fact that the ship was recovered. Furthermore, the comma and "finding" after archaeologist is incorrect. I also don't think this is the correct usage of "having sunk".
Choice E makes it seem that the ship found the artifacts rather than the archaeologist.[/spoiler]
