Peer Reference

by subudani » Fri Oct 19, 2012 4:34 am
The judge business school is asking for a supervisor and a peer referee as references.

I am in a bit of a dilemma as i would like to provide them a supervisor + client referee as my references

I am not keen on providing a peer referee as he would write the same things that my supervisor would write.
Hence i believe a client referee would add more value to my application than a peer referee.

what reasons do i give for not providing a peer referee.

I am also not sure how will the admissions committee look upon a client referee and will it any way diminish my chances of admission.

Any help would be much appreciated

This is not an arena to get creative. Do what they ask for. It is not an onerous task to secure a peer letter, and they will likely have a different perspective and voice vs your supervisor.

Good Luck!

Thanks Alex and Jim For the advice
I asked a similar question to the judge admission head.
This was his response.
Do you still advise me to stick with supervisor plus peer referee.

@subudani We ask for a supervisor and a peer reference to get a better understanding of how you work in a professional environment. Peer references are vital in that regard. We have made exceptions for candidates who have had difficulties obtaining a reference because of work sensitivities. In those cases, our preference is for someone who had worked with you before but may not be in the company now, or a client reference. Conrad Chua @CambridgeMBA on twitter

They have said that peer references are VITAL. And they are giving you an out if this is not achievable. Can you find a solid peer who you can work with? It sounded like you can?

Thanks Alex once again.
I can definitely arrange a peer reference.

For all my other applications, I have been using my client as a referee. And he has written some very good things about me supplementing my essays. I just thought his recommendation would add more weight.

Anyways I will find a peer to write something good about me.
Thanks once again
