Hello,

This is from MGMAT Guide 5, P. 41. Can you please assist here? Thanks for your help - Sri

1) If x divided by y yields an odd integer, what is x?

Answer choices:
ODD
EVEN
CANNOT BE DETERMINED

Answer:
CANNOT BE DETERMINED

I was thinking that x should be ODD.
x = 15, y = 3. x/y = 5 (x is odd)
x = 21, y = 7. x/y = 3 (x is odd)

Sri - why did you not plug even integers for x ?

If x = 12 and y = 4 then x/y = 3(odd) and x is even
If x = 9 and y = 3 then x/y = 3(odd) BUT x is odd.

Clear ?
