Hi,

I am planning to apply to top 10 business schools in the US for Fall 2013, so I shall start by application process by July/August 2012

I would like to get some advise on how can I improve my profile to enhance my changes of getting calls from top 10 business schools. Below is my current profile, I think my GMAT score is def. a bit on the lower side for the schools that I want to apply to; so I'm def looking to rewrite the exam. But other than that and I'm also looking for ways (like social work, leadership skills etc.) by which I can improve my profile. I'll really appreciate any responses.

Profile -

GMAT - 670 (Verbal 29, Quant 50, AWA 5.0)

I'm an Indian origin, went to Unv of Pennsylvania for Masters in Electrical Engineering (major Computer Networks). I graduated from the masters program in Dec 2007 and from Feb 2008 I've been working in Technology division of a bank in NYC.

I started working as a .net developer. After working for a year with that group, I moved to another group where I did combination of software programing in Java and business analysis for about an year and half. And for the last 1.5 years I've been working as a project lead, I've been managing a group of 6 developers (mainly off shore) and a project manager. My role includes connecting a bridge between IT and business, so I now have a strong understanding of the business as well.

Please let me know if you need more information and I will be more than happy to provide it.

Thanks again for any help

Hi Vivek,
Thanks so much for your post! I think that you are doing the right thing by starting out early in this process and evaluating your profile and where you have strengths and weaknesses. As you mentioned, I do think that your GMAT is low for the programs you are considering, and that this is definitely an area you should work to improve. I also think that you need to be very clear about WHY you want to attend business school and why you want to attend now. What are your short term and long term goals? What skills and knowledge do you hope to gain from a B school program? In terms of differentiating yourself from peer applicants, I think it is very helpful to also be clear how you will enrich the community on campus. What clubs and organizations will you lead, and become an integral part of on each campus? What will your classmates and the community gain from having you as a student and participant. I suggest that you think through these answers, and do some additional research as to programs and what each offers, and why it is a fit for you.

Of course, feel free to contact us at [email protected] for a more detailed, free personalized assessment.

Best,

Deena
