At a certain photography store, it costs Pete $1.65 for the first print and $0.85 for each additional print. How many prints of a particular photograph can Pete get for $20 ?

(A) 19
(B) 20
(C) 21
(D) 22
(E) 23

1.65+0.85(Total-1)=20

We can plug in the answers, which represent the number of prints that can be purchased for $20.

Answer choice C: 21 prints
1.65 + 20(.85) = 18.65.
Amount remaining = 20 - 18.65 = 1.35.
Pete can buy one more print for .85.

The correct answer is D.

Note that we had to plug in ONLY ONE ANSWER CHOICE and that we did not have to spend time setting up an equation -- a very efficient way to solve the problem.

Mitch, fantastic method.
My own method was similar to neelgandham's method, but after calculation i got confused by 22.X (19.20/.85 = 22.5). According the concept of decimals, I took it as 23 (rounding the tenth).
I was getting more into concept, but now i got your plug and play method. Thanks :D

20-1.65(one)=18.35
18.35/0.85=21.6(remaining)
21.6+1=22.6 (22)
