Hi all -
I thought I might drop by and share my story with you briefly -
I only very recently (mid Nov) started considering business school as a next step in my career path. As I started to look at the application requirements and deadlines, I realized that I was going to have to take the GMAT... and soon.
I'm a pretty good standardized test taker, but I knew that taking the test 'blind' was likely to result in a bad outcome. So I hopped on amazon and ordered a bunch of study guides. As it turned out, I really only needed one set: the 14 or 15 book volume produced by Veritas Prep. Their books brought me up to speed very quickly, and though the volume was expensive (~$225), I must say that those were $225 very well spent.
After taking a practice test (on which I also scored a 780) with about a week to go until the real exam, I figured I'd try to stay sharp by working my way through the official study guides. While not bad in and of themselves, I must say that the official guides were so far inferior to the Veritas guides that I stopped studying after only one or two additional hours of work. And, thankfully, it all worked out well in the end. 780 official score, 51Q, 48V, and a 6 on the written portion. Not bad for a rush job!
