My take
Because of the enormous research and development expenditures required to survive in the electronics industry
in this sentence, the use of "to survive" might mean that enormous research and development expenditures need to survive...
Because of the enormous research and development expenditures required to survive in the electronics industry,an industry marked by rapid innovation and volatile demand,such firms tend to be very large.
there is no prior mention about "such firms"...


Option B corrects these ambiguities

Hmm quite interesting. Unless you read the entire sentence , your OA would not be correct.

After looking at entire sentence . IMO B
