This is an interesting question, because it's rare that "being" is correct.

The correct meaning here is that it is Dreyfus who was exonerated and freed. C is parallel, and has a clear meaning.

In D, it's awkward to say "before exoneration and his freedom." A better way to state it would be "he was exonerated and freed."
