Hi, Although you are asking for an expert opinion, allow me to give my 2 cents.

The first choice I Eliminated was option B-- "If used repeatedly in the same place, one reason"-- This is incorrectly modifying "One Reason" .. Also the sentence formation is very awkward.

Same goes for option C as well.

Then I jumped to option E (I do that almost all the time btw -- jumping to last option first if I find the original bit awkward! ) -- I feel that the overall sentence formation is not correct. Totally vague and full of ambiguity.

Although, option A is not like the usual answer (airtight), it is the best of the lot.

here the sentence implies that "the finding is suggesting one reason"... its like "John is suggesting his mother" ..Probably, if it was "The finding... suggests that use of pesticides... ", it could have been a probable choice.
