Let x = a-b. So, the question becomes:
Is 1/x < -x ?
(1)x<0
(2)1<|x|
From(1):
x is negative. So, -1/x is positive. negative quantity is always less than positive.
Sufficient

From(2):
|x|>1 => x<-1 or x>1.
If x is negative, 1/x < -x
If x is positive, 1/x > -x
Not sufficient
