i found this question in some source, and this question was discussed earlier also in 2009 but i'm wondering, is this question correct???
OA given is C

pronoun "They" is referring to labor....is this correct???

Don't you think we need HAD + V3 in the condition?

This would only be true if it were the grandparents who could afford the appliances; the sentence intends it to be the "many people" of today.
