720 (Q44 V45) and scores of all practice test taken

Just to give the accuracy of the practice tests some context here are all the practice test scores I got prior to taking the test:


Manhattan Review CAT 1: 630
Manhattan Review CAT 2: 630
Manhattan Review CAT 3: 630
Manhattan Review CAT 4: 650
Manhattan Review CAT 5: 500 (WTF?) this test just seemed like it was put together poorly. That being said, it definitely shook my confidence considering I took this practice test a week before the actual GMAT
MBA.com CAT test: 680 (3 days before GMAT)
Actual GMAT: 720

The two things to take away from this are: 1. The Manhattan Review tests do not accurately asses your ability to take the GMAT's (at least not as much as the MBA.com tests) and 2. Don't let one poor practice test (especially not an official one) affect your confidence.

Where is the guarantee that every time we take a test sponsored by GMAC we get the same and/or similar score(s)? Nothing to blame MGMAT for what it has never claimed.

p.s. Without prejudice or favor to any GMAT Prep company, as I am myself always skeptical about the things like CATs.

I'm not bashing the Manhattan Review. I actually thought the course was very helpful. Nor am I trying to say they guarantee your test scores will be consistent. All I'm trying to say is they do not give a realistic representation of what score to expect on the actual GMATs, and they quality of the one test was not consistent with the other four. While I was taking the test before I even got my score I was thinking to myself this test was not as good as the others -- there were identical answer choices on two questions and on another there was an incomplete answer choice (missing the numerator in a fraction). I still consider the tests a contributer to my score as they give you a feel for the GMATs structure and pace.
