GPA for university of Pune

by bblast » Wed Jan 26, 2011 6:30 am
Does anybody have any idea how to convert the ridiculous marks we people obtain in the University of Pune to GPA ?

My aggregate for 4 years BE is around 57%,

however the final years' marks and the bachelor's certificate reads 65.46% which is just .54% short of distinction.
They award distinction at 66 and first class at 60.

Any experienced people on this ?
Cheers !!

There is no accurate way of converting Indian percentage system to US GPA system. Just send the universities your transcripts. They would receive many more Indian applications with such percentage marks. They know how to handle your marks. Don't worry about converting your scores. There is no accurate way with which you can do so.

Yep , had similar question , googled and got some intresting formulae :--

Percentage to GPA - Formula 192-100 = 4.0 (A)

90-92 = 3.7 (A-)

87-89 = 3.3 (B+)

82-87 = 3.0 (B)

80-82 = 2.7 (B-)

77-79 = 2.3 (C+)

72-77 = 2.0 (C)

70-72 = 1.7 (C-)

Formula 2Divide by 100 and multiply by 4.

Example : Percentage = 80, then GPA = 80 divided by 100 and multiply by 4.

Formula 3
Same as Formula2, but its simple. Divide Percentage by 4 to get GPA.

Percentage to GPA - Formula 4
70 -100 = 4.0 (A)

60 - 70 = 3.0 (B)

50 - 60 = 2.0 (C)

40 to 50= 1.0 (D)

Less than 40 = F

But i feel that converting % to GPA gives very less GPA , anyways no one in India scores above 85 % in Engineering , 70 % tak theek haii lekinn 80% above is rare.
Thanks & Regards,

Agree with you guys, it even varies in India from univ to univ. My best friend who was way below me in academics in school always got over 65% in his engineering in Bangalore univ(Ramaiya). And I wheeled all 4 yrs arnd 60% in Pune university.:(

@karan->Do I need to do this transcript stuff for gmat ? I had heard this needs to be done for GRE ?
What exactly a transcript contains ? I am about to submit my applications online, so how are the hard copy transcripts useful ?
Cheers !!

I guess it would be better if you contact the admission office of the schools u r applying to. Generally, you need to send scanned copies of all your mark sheets during application. Once you are enrolled, you need to send them transcripts before admission. You need to contact your university(Pune university) and they ll send the transcripts to the schools u mention at a fixed rate.

but for final confirmation the transcripts from univ are required...
