My Grandmother will finish the puzzle soon if her dog did not eat the pieces

A. if her dog did not eat the pieces
B. if her dog has not eaten the pieces
C. if her dog had not eaten the pieces
D. when her dog had not eaten the pieces
E. when her dog has not eaten the pieces

Please explain the answer.. thanks

Hi,

When refers 'time' not a condition, so D & E are out.

Now, X will happen... If Y happens

so ans shld be B.

Its a simple rule given in MGMAT SC guide:
If X, then Y (Here X is an if-clause and Y is a then-clause)

If-clause in Present Tense => then-clause contains - will + base verb
If-clause in Past Tense => then-clause contains - would/could + base verb
If-clause in Pasr Prefect Tense => then-clause contains - would/could + have + past participle
