A has $18 more than what B & C together would have had if both B and C had 1/4 of what A has. How much does A have?

(A) 20

(B) 48

(C) 32

(D) 36

(E) 40

OA is D

Here

A = 18 + (B+C)

B=C=1/4 (A)

B+C = (1/2) A

A = 18 + (1/2)A

1/2 (A) = 18

A =36

D

question is A has $18 more than what B & C together would have had if both B and C had 1/4 of what A has

if both B and C had 1/4 of what A then they would have 1/2 of what A has and that is $18 less than total amount of A

so 1/2 of what A has =$18
or A has 18*2=$36
