Projecting yourself in resume

Hi Lisa,

I have a query regarding the resume that we are required to submit along with other documents during MBA admission. I have a full-time work experience of 3 years as of now in Information Technology . I've a vast expertise in various software technologies. But i've no managerial experience. However, at the very least, I've engaged in managing few resources under me while working in the projects, similar to a role of Technical Lead.

If you were in my position, how would you project yourself to the b-school adcoms in the resume and stand a good chance for an admission?

The key for any applicant who works in a technical job, whether IT or engineering, is to ensure that you are writing your resume for the business school audience and not like you would to get the next technical job. You want to highlight your transferable skills and accomplishments in your career. It is not unusual or a disadvantage that you have not managed people yet--the fact you have managed resources is an advantage and something to emphasize though. Perhaps have a trusted friend or mentor (maybe an admissions consultant) help with moving your resume in this direction if you are struggling--being able to convey what you do from a business orientation will set you apart from the many IT applicants who cannot.
